Abstract

Four chalcone based aliphatic copolyesters were prepared by polycondensation method, using chalcone diols and two acid chlorides such as terepththaloyl chloride and adipoyl chloride. Chalcone diols were prepared by acid catalyzed Claisen-Schmidt reaction. The chalcone based copolyesters were tested for their solubility tests and viscosity measurements. The structure of the copolyesters was confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic datas. The antimicrobial activity of the copolyesters with certain microbes is well documented. Hence these random copolyesters may emerge as antimicrobial agents.
