Formation and Study of Karakalpak Writing

Abstract

This article explores the history and evolution of the Karakalpak language, a member of the Turkic language group, with a focus on its script, spelling, and recent language development efforts. The Karakalpak language has roots dating back to the Sak-Massaget peoples around the Aral Sea and evolved into Turkic through interactions with other groups. Its literary form emerged in the 15th century, and it continued to evolve, with poets like Kunkhoja and Ajiniyaz contributing. The Karakalpak script transitioned from Arabic and Latin to the current Latin-based alphabet, with spelling reforms over time. Recent initiatives aim to strengthen the language's role in education and daily life, preserving its unique features and cultural significance.
